- Summary, Etc.
- 요약This dissertation illustrates the development of a cohesive monetary organization in the Arsacid Empire, which was aimed at benefiting the Parthians and Persians on the Iranian Plateau. It highlights the role of bronze coinage, both in small and large denominations, in accelerating productive and commercial activities. This process aligns with earlier phenomena in the Achaemenid and Seleucid periods, which laid the groundwork for the Arsacid reorganization plan. These phenomena include the increased distribution of silver and the establishment of weight and minting systems, enabling the widespread circulation of durable currencies in the form of precious and base metals across the Iranian Plateau and Mesopotamia. The reorganization of the Arsacid monetary system, involving a reversal in the distribution of silver and bronze coins, focused on revising existing weight measures and addressing the ongoing need for coinage. This dissertation builds on the narrative above by explaining the distribution of silver in the Achaemenid period, which led to the need for additional coins, including bronze coins. It then describes the weight and mint systems of the Seleucid administration, resulting in a multi-currency system. This narrative highlights the significance of the reforms made by the Arsacids in establishing a centralized currency system. It demonstrates how the political and economic legacies of the Achaemenids and the Seleucids influenced Arsacid financial policies, and how existing systems were transformed to align with a new political ideology.
