- 요약The goal of this study was to examine the internal and external factors that might influence a school librarian in public secondary schools as they select, obtain, promote, and use diverse and multicultural literature in their work with stakeholders. The research design is a narrative inquiry of identity and experience framed by a collective case study of composite experiences. This approach of creating composite cases preserved the anonymity of my participants, allowed the sharing of a wide breadth of school librarians' lived experiences and perceptions, and enabled me to look at similarities and differences across those experiences and perceptions. A cultural historical activity theory analysis of these composite cases reveals how school library policies, especially those regarding the selection and curation of collections, are nested, interrelated activities, demanding ongoing decisions related to competing ideologies informed by an individual school librarian's identity and personal experience as well as local and national contexts. Applying a second-generation CHAT model to the activity system of school librarianship revealed multiple sites of internal and external secondary contradiction and areas of potential change and improvement. The results of this study indicate that this activity system can be mapped using second-generation CHAT model, and it provides a language and framework for analyzing the system to see where tensions manifest and points of pressure arise.
