Summary, Etc.
요약In a society entrenched in supremacist ideology, Black queer women face compounded marginalization due to their deviation from dominant norms. This dissertation examines the experiences of Black, queer, and gender non-conforming women, exploring how they navigate societal marginalization and construct spaces of self-recognition and visibility, particularly through artistic expression. Drawing on Tania Zittoun's (2007) conceptualization of Rupture-Transitions through a Black queer feminist lens, the study investigates the intersections of race, gender, and sexuality, shedding light on the ways Black, queer, and gender non-conforming women engage in the process of understanding their marginalized identities and the ways they use art to make meaning and cultivate visibility. The research employs qualitative methods, including in-depth interviews, observation of artistic spaces, and analysis of artistic artifacts. Findings underscore the role of artistic expression as a refuge from societal violence and a catalyst for empowerment and collective resistance. By reclaiming control over their narratives through art, participants challenge normative structures and assert their identities. The study contributes to scholarship on Black queer vulnerability and offers insights for designing educational spaces that better support marginalized communities.
