- Summary, Etc.
- 요약Jeremias Drexel, S.J. (1581--1638) was Europe's most published author of his time, and is the most understudied one today. The Lutheran Augsburger became the foremost spiritual guide of Counter-Reformation Bavaria as court preacher to Duke Maximilian I, and superstar author to the rest of the continent. His books glided across linguistic and confessional boundaries. Fans included cardinals, abbots, and revolutionary Puritans. This study is a biography of Drexel's reputation, tracing his personal formation as a Jesuit author, his entry into Munich's cosmopolitan printing industry, his wildly successful status as a learned ascetic, and the aura beyond his grave that preserved his holiness but precious little else. A re-examination of Drexel challenges us with a fresh understanding of asceticism, the heart, and authorship. .
