- Summary, Etc.
- 요약Solidarity Struggles: Race and US Proletarian Literature reads 1930s US proletarian literature to discover how writer's affiliated with the Communist Party USA during the long 1930s incorporated the party's Third-Period embrace of black nationalism to their literary production. The dissertation argues that US proletarian authors of the long 1930s developed an aesthetic regime of cross-racial narrative identifications to reposition the working-class-and white working-class people especially-in relation to white racial identity. The writers this dissertation surveys aimed to construct an anti-racist working-class consciousness by appropriating elements from black and white folk cultures, expanding the generic boundaries of traditional social realism, and developing content that encouraged working-class people to identify with and support black liberation struggles.
