- 요약Skies & Horizons is a collection of pieces for wind ensemble connected through figurative and literal concepts pertaining to the ground, earth, sea, sky, and stars. The work is divided into ten pieces, totaling twenty-three minutes in length. Succinct and full of character, each piece explores various possibilities, in which the wind ensemble and its subsections can offer. Throughout history, our place on this planet and university have served as a point of inspiration for philosophers, artists, explorers, musicians, and numerous other fields. Concepts and inspiration for the work have manifested in the pieces: Horizon Expanse (1'), Separating Circle (1:45'), Celestia (2:30'), Mirage (2'), Kite-Flying (3'), Redwoods (3'), Soarin' (2:30'), Sky Dive (2:45'), Vanishing Point (2:00'), and Fireside (3:30') for a combined duration of approximately 24 minutes. While unified under the concept of Skies & Horizons, each piece are distinct in their own right. Horizon Expanse opens the work with a powerful fanfare, Three pieces feature the subsection of the wind ensemble, Mirage - percussion, Redwoods - woodwinds, Soarin' - brass. Separating Circle and Vanishing Point represent intricate and technical pieces with angular motives and rhythmic patterns, while Celestia, Kite-Flying, and Sky Dive incorporate more flowing, melodic passages. Fireside concludes the work with a requiem in a celebration for life lived and loved.
