- 요약In light of the lack of research on intercultural learning and acculturation in the music education field, the purpose of this multiple case study was to explore international graduate music education students' (IGMES') perspectives on their intercultural learning experiences while studying at two Midwestern universities in the United States. The study utilized semi-structured interviews and personal artifact reviews over one academic semester. Thematic analysis revealed nuanced themes related to the research questions. Participants described notable disparities in teaching styles and curricula between their home countries and the United States. They perceived some of these differences to be related to difficulties in adaptation. Despite that, participants valued mentorship and abundant research resources that were available to them during their studies in the United States, which facilitated their academic development.Regarding career goals, participants aspired to become researchers, educators, or policymakers in music education. They expected to gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills to advance their teaching philosophies and practices. Challenges, such as visa restrictions and language barriers, were viewed as stressors that in some instances negatively impacted participants' psychological well-being. However, participants also viewed certain challenges as opportunities for personal and academic growth. In terms of the benefits of studying in the United States, participants indicated that intercultural interactions fostered their cultural humility and improved their English proficiency. Findings of this study highlighted the need for inclusive curricular designs, networks of international alumni, and mentorship programs to enhance international students' educational experiences.
