- 요약In the 1983 publication, Frames of Mind, Howard Gardner presented his Theory of Multiple Intelligences, which challenged the notion of a quantifiable single general intelligence, g, often measured as IQ. Gardner determined the criteria for the selection of various individual intelligences present in all humans and used these criteria to suggest the existence of seven intelligences: linguistic intelligence, musical intelligence, logical-mathematical intelligence, spatial intelligence, bodily-kinesthetic intelligence, and two personal intelligences; i.e., intrapersonal and interpersonal intelligences. This theory rapidly gained traction in the field of education due to its potential for aiding in the development of adaptable methods of teaching and learning. In his 1999 publication, The Disciplined Mind: What All Students Should Understand, Gardner applied his Multiple Intelligences Theory to an educational framework for facilitating understanding. Gardner's work on cognition and pedagogy has been successfully applied in many disciplines, and the present treatise aims to utilize this framework to create and label a variety of approaches to fundamental tuba pedagogy and inspire others to do the same in this and other contexts. In the pages below, the reader can expect to learn about the tenets and justification of Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences, his framework of teaching for understanding, and be introduced to different methods of teaching the fundamentals of breathing, sound production, intonation, range, dynamics, and articulation in tuba pedagogy from the lens of Gardner's framework of teaching for understanding and his Theory of Multiple Intelligences. This research can be expanded into other concepts within tuba pedagogy, and the contents herein may prove useful to teachers seeking to diversify their teaching.
