- Summary, Etc.
- 요약I use laboratory experiments to study the ways in which people learn from randomly generated data. In Chapter 1, I test the hypothesis that people use simple mental models to learn about the world. I find that, indeed, subjects in the experiment seem only to be able to incorporate 2 variables into their mental model. This simplification causes them to have polarized beliefs about the world. In Chapter 2, I examine how people learn about themselves and others. My results suggest that people attribute good news to a high ability and bad news to a bad state. When learning about others, people who initially underestimate others, tend to overreact to positive signals. In contrast, those who initially overestimate others, continue to do so even in the presence of negative signals. In Chapter 3, I propose a model that can explain some of the most salient features of the behavior observed in the data from Chapter 2.
