요약This multiple case study dissertation investigated the lived experiences and perceptions of four young autistic adults in music and performing arts. By exploring firsthand accounts from autistic individuals themselves, this study examined creative research methodologies that incorporate autistic voices. The primary research questions driving this dissertation were: What are the musical lived experiences and perspectives of young autistic adults? How do autistic adults experience a Language and Performing Arts course? How can suggestions from autistic adults and those who work closely with them inform music educators? Findings from the dissertation indicated that involvement in the arts can be a space for social interaction, communication, and self-expression among autistic students. The study also identified the need for ongoing research with autistic students, varied teaching strategies, more professional development for educators, and a rationale for cross-disciplinary collaborations. These insights suggested that integrating the arts into education for autistic students can add to their learning experiences and help encourage advocacy for autistic individuals.
