- 요약Close relationships require regular maintenance to sustain closeness. At any given time, someone can feel more or less ready for a committed relationship. Building on Relationship Receptivity Theory, individuals with high levels of commitment readiness should not just be more receptive to relationship generally, but should also be more interested in a relationship with and enact more relationship initiation behaviors toward someone who represents a promising potential romantic partner upon first meeting. Additionally, these ready individuals should be more likely to invest in their relationships with these particular people. Across three studies (total N = 845 participants, 1,703 observations), I investigated how commitment readiness is related to relationship initiation during live interactions with potential romantic partners (S1-3), followed up with these particular relationships months later to measure investments made (S3), and explored whether these processes function similarly in initial interactions with new potential friends (S2-3).
