요약This dissertation aims to illustrate, by example, how to defend a distinction in the face of philosophical minimalism that challenges its reality and significance. Using three dialogue-based case studies, each concerning a different distinction susceptible to minimalist undermining, it demonstrates a technique to defend these philosophical distinctions through identifying concrete analogies. The contention is that distinctions seem so difficult to defend because of their abstract character. In each case, the difficulties can be overcome by starting with a crucial, concrete analogy that helps us in thinking about the distinction. The concrete analogy can then be successively refined until it approaches and illuminates the original, more abstract distinction.
