요약By using the population level data of heterogeneous populations, statistical and mathematical approaches, such as Lasso and mixed effects modeling, to identify variables of interest and find a model that would fit different populations. The heterogeneity of the populations is exhibited in observational data on bonobos and simulated data involving oncology patients and the subsequent tumor dynamics. The results show that it is feasible to identify, and feature select variables that are of importance. In the bonobo dataset, sex, age and cardiac medication were consistent indicators and in the tumor dynamics, the growth and decay constants showed as central to understanding the subtleties of the tumor growth. This work sends a clear message that application of these methodologies can be extended to a variety of datasets in diverse research fields.
