I explore how cultural concepts, including Confucianism and folk tunes, are used in selected contemporary Asian compositions through theoretical analysis and descriptions. My study shows that, in general, composers use Western compositional techniques to incorporate East Asian folk tunes into their compositions; only Adrian Tien's (1973-2018) carillon compositions included cultural concepts.
